Summary
Mercy Otis Warren was a colonial patriot who used her writing skills to support independence and record history. She wrote plays, poetry, and pamphlets that encouraged people to turn against the British and rally in support of independence. She eagerly participated in political discussion, which was unusual for women of that era. In 1805, the first American history book written by a woman was published-the three-volume History of the Rise, Progress, and Termination of the American Revolution, by Mercy Otis Warren
